If I Could Do It Over

HEALTH NEWS YOU CAN USE-Thinking Well

Written by: Dr. Robert Neposlan

Here is an article we ran some time ago…it means as much to me today as it did the first time we published it…..I’m hoping you take a minute and slow down to appreciate what the following poem is saying.

If I had my child to raise all over again…

I’d build self-esteem first, and the house later.

I’d finger paint more, and point the finger less.

I would do less correcting and more connecting.

I’d take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes…

I would care to know less and know to care more…

I’d take more hikes and fly more kites…

I’d stop playing serious, and seriously play…

I’d ignore the stares and stare at more stars…

I’d do more hugging and less tugging…

I’d see the oak in the acorn more often…

I would be firm less often, and affirm much more…

I’d abandon my love of power, in favor of the power of love…

In my practice often times the realization of time passing is brought up in conversation with patients. Just recently I had someone in and we reflected on how quickly our children are growing. Even myself, it isn’t until my children lay down on my chiropractic table that I think, my …how quickly they grow. We all get tied up in life thinking that the future will bring us more time and when we accomplish this or that we’ll be free to give more. If the above poem doesn’t resonate with you, ask someone who’s older what it means to him or her.

Be the extraordinary parent you always wanted to be. Take a minute today to “think well”.
